Masters Weightlifting Mediterranean - International Open Athens 2023

Final change body category

The athletes can change their body category (one category up or down) until 10 October 2023 by sending an email asimolonlave@gmail.com.

Competition Regulations

The Competition will be held according to the IWF Technical and Competition Rules and Regulations. This competition is a qualification event for the International and Continental Masters Weightlifting Championships 2024.

Eligibility

There is NO geographical exclusion for the participation of athletes.

The competition will not have any qualification phase and no minimum best total.

The minimum age for participating lifters is those born in 1993. There is no maximum age limit to compete.

280 athlete maximum registration.

Doping Control

No Doping Control will be conducted because any records broken will not be recognized by the IWF Masters.

Sport Equipment

Will use IWF-approved Olympic weightlifting equipment.

Accreditation

The Accreditations for Athletes/Coaches will be given at the stadium of the 1^st Gymnasium of Markopoulo on 1^st  November 16:00-20:00.

The athletes who cannot take their accreditation at this time can take their accreditations from the competition’s officials the next day.

For the accreditation and weight-in an ID or Passport is required for the athlete’s identification.

Adaptive Athletes

Male and female Masters Adaptive Weightlifters from the age 35+ are eligible to participate based on the 7 categories described below. After their registration, they will have to contact the organization via email to fill out the special entry form.

• Deaf or hard of hearing
• Blind or visually impaired
• Intellectually disabled
• Amputee
• Limited Range of Motion
• Athlete of Short Stature (Dwarf)
• Wheelchair

Only Masters Adaptive Weightlifters with a permanent disability are eligible to participate under the Masters Adaptive Weightlifting categories.

The 7 categories of MASTERS ADAPTIVE WEIGHTLIFTER (MAWC) are accepted to register for participation. A formal medical statement of permanent disability as proof and the physician's approval to exercise the Sport of Olympic Weightlifting is required to send along with the manual entry form.

Awards

Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the three highest-ranked lifters Total for all body weight categories within each age group for men and women. The Best Female and Male Lifter for each Age Group will be awarded at the end of each age category. National anthems will be played during the medal ceremonies for each category. The national flags will be computer displayed.

The Best Female and Male Lifter overall will be awarded with Grand Masters Award.

Diplomas of participation will be given to all participants.

Every athlete should do their registration via this website. The athletes will have the chance to buy some extras with their registration as competition Souvenirs, T-shirts and closing banquet’s tickets. Also, there will be available for the athletes and their company to buy in advance some sightseeing getaways to Athens city center, local ancient monuments, and wineries.

Accommodation and FREE Shuttle bus

The accommodation prices are valid only for our competition group and only available for booking during the registration. These prices include all the taxes and the special government tax (3€ per room per night). We recommend you book your accommodation via https://www.holidayyourfitness.com  with your registration. The prices above include a shuttle bus from/to Athens International Airport and competition venue. Your booking is final only if you make full payment for your accommodation, due to limited rooms availability. So, we recommend you book your accommodation in advance and use our discount.

Closing banquet (Unlimited food-Free drinks)

Ticket Price: €25/person. The athletes can buy their tickets with their registration. 

The closing ceremony will take place at a local Greek traditional Tavern near the competition venue.

Transport Information

Athletes arriving at Athens International Airport El. Venizelos and have a booking in one of the competition’s hotels will be transported to their hotels via the free shuttle bus.

Visas

Greece is a member of the European Union and Schengen zone.

OC is not offering or providing any direct visa application service for the Masters Weightlifting Mediterranean Open Athens 2023. It is the sole responsibility of the visiting athlete to arrange any visas it may require.

The organizer may be able to provide an invitation letter to support a visa application if the athlete requests support from Hellenic Weightlifting

To participate in the races requires full acceptance of regulations:

1. Men and women above 30 years old are accepted.
2. Valid participation is considered to be valid after it has been paid off financially.
3. The maximum number of participants for the event is two hundred (280) people.
4. The entry fee is €70 (participation ticket only) per athlete from 12 May until 20 May and €85 from 10 July until 24 September. The extra items that can be purchased on registrations are T-shirt at €10, Closing Banquet at €25.
5. The event will take place from the 2nd of November 2023 until the 5th of November 2023.
6. Participants are obliged to fully comply with the regulations set by the organizer. They are also obliged to obey the suggestions of the individuals (eg. volunteers, reviewers) designated by the organizer. Failure to comply with the regulations or instructions will result in the exclusion penalty, with no refund or any other costs. Any person authorized by the event manager may record any infringement that he has perceived and report it to the event manager.
7. Any marking of the space provided by the event manager is temporary, intended to serve the participants, and is removed after the event.
8. Athletes are involved at their own risk and the organizing authority is not responsible for any injuries they may have, as stated in the statement of responsibility or here. However, qualified medical personnel and a fully equipped ambulance will be available. There will also be rescue teams covering the event.
9. Participants must have been examined by a physician who has judged them capable of participating in the particular event. Medical advice must not be older than 30 days from the last day of the event. 
10. Athletes will be able to visit the toilets of the Stadium, which follow the safety and cleanliness protocols.
11. It is strictly forbidden to dispose any kind of object during the whole event, such as plastic bottles or any other solid or liquid food packaging material used by athletes during the event. Disposal of packaging materials or other non-organic waste anywhere on the route beyond the predetermined, carries an exclusion penalty, no refund, or any other costs.
12. The event manager undertakes to supervise the field of play with specialized personnel in safety, rescue, and medical assistance to the participants in need. In cases where security personnel and referees indicate to athletes that the event must be stopped for safety reasons, the latter is obliged to obey. Non-compliance means exclusion, no refund, or any other costs.
13. In case of need, the event manager reserves the right to postpone the start of the event in order not to endanger the physical integrity of the participants. In very extreme conditions he can cancel the event.
14. In case the event is postponed indefinitely, a full refund will be made to the participants.
15. Participant exclusion occurs for: a) Pollution of the site. b) Inappropriate behavior towards the organizing staff. c) Inappropriate behavior towards the spectators of the event. d) Non-compliance with these Regulations.
16. The organizers are not responsible for the deaths, injuries, or any damage to the health of the participants who, upon submitting their request for participation, declare that they are aware of the risks involved including those allegedly attributed to the negligent acts or omissions of the foregoing that their health status is good and allows them to participate, and they have recently been examined by a doctor on this subject. However, no participant will be required to submit a medical certificate. They are obliged to perform regular medical checkups in order to check their health status. The event managers disclaim any responsibility for the physical integrity of the participants, who should behave responsibly at any dangerous points on the route. The organizers disclaim any financial responsibility in the event of outside assistance to any athlete.
17. Participants consent to be featured in photographs or any other media from the event, which shall be used exclusively to promote the event.
18. The organizers have the authority to modify the rules and regulations of the event, with no further notice.
