Important Dates

  • Registrations: 1st February - 31st March 2022 
  • Accreditation: 25th May 2022 (from 16:00 to 20:00)
  • Competition: 26th to 29th May 2022

Every athlete should do their registration via this website. They will have the chance to buy some extras with their registration. Competition T-shirts, closing banquet tickets, and bus tickets from/to the competition venue will be also available for the athletes and their company to buy in advance.

Competition Regulations
The Competition will be held according to the IWF Technical and Competition Rules and Regulations.

Eligibility
There is NO geographical exclusion for the participation of athletes.
The competition will not have any qualification phase and no minimum best total.
The minimum age for participating lifters is for those born in 1992. There is no maximum age limit to compete. 280 athlete maximum registration.

Doping Control
No Doping Control will be conducted because any records broken will not be recognized by the IWF
Masters.

Sport Equipment
Will use IWF approved Olympic weightlifting equipment

Accreditation
The Accreditations will be given at THE STANLEY HOTEL 25th May 16:00-20:00.
The athletes who cannot take their accreditation at this location and time can take their accreditations from the competition’s officials at the competition venue. For the accreditation and weight in an ID or Passport is required for athlete’s identification.

Verification and Technical Officials meeting
The Verification of Final and Technical Officials meeting will take place via ZOOM. It will take place on 18/05/22 at 19:00.

Flags and National Anthem
Each National Federation is kindly requested to bring 2 (two) National Flags 110cm x 150cm)

Awards
Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the three highest-ranked lifters Total for all bodyweight categories within each age group for men and women. National anthems will be played during the ceremonies for each category.

The Best Female and Male Lifter for each Age Group will be awarded Awards and free banquet tickets.

The Best Female and Male Lifter overall will be awarded Grand Master Awards and free banquet tickets.

The First 4 Female and Male National Teams will be awarded Awards and free banquet tickets for someone representing the team.

Diplomas of participation will be given to all participants.

Closing banquet
Ticket Price: €25/person. The athletes can buy their tickets with their registration.

The closing banquet will take place at the same hotel we proposing for athlete’s accommodation. A full menu and drinks will be available. The competition awards will be given and every athlete can attend with their company to celebrate the winners and the ending of our competition. We remind you that the best athletes of each age category and the best male and female Grand Master will be given free tickets for the ceremony. Also, a representative of the best four national teams will be awarded a free ticket. In case someone has purchased his ticket and later wins the award we will return the money or he can give it to someone else.

Transport Information
The athlete’s arriving at Athens International Airport El. Venizelos should arrange their transport to their hotel with their own responsibility. They can use a taxi, bus or metro.

For athletes’ transport from/ to the competition venue and hotel, a bus will be available. The private bus will be available during the competition days and will have a flexible schedule according to the times of weight in and competition. We recommend using the private because public transport may have some delays and there is not a direct station for the competition venue. The fee for the bus is:

  • 8€ / person one day ticket
  • 15€/ person for full days ticket

Athletes and their company can purchase their bus tickets with their registration.

For anyone who wants to use public transport to the competition, the venue should take the green metro line (line1) and stop at Neragiotissa station. The station is 600m from the competition venue. From Omonia station to Neragiotissa is 45 minutes.

Visas
Greece is a member of the European Union and Schengen zone.

OC is not offering or providing any direct visa application service for the Masters' Weightlifting Mediterranean Open Athens 2022. It is the sole responsibility of the visiting athlete to arrange any visas it may require.

The organizer may be able to provide an invitation letter to support a visa application if the athlete requests support from Hellenic Weightlifting

*If more than 210 athletes participate there will be one more day of competition, Sunday 29th May 2022. The closing banquet will take place on Sunday. The competition will start from the higher age categories so the last competition group will be the W30, M30.

*Each group will be consist of a maximum of 14 athletes.

To participate in the races requires full acceptance of regulations:

  1. Athletes competing should understand that they are moving in an open, exposed to particular weather conditions that will prevail on that particular day of the race.
  2. Men and women above 30 years old are accepted.
  3. Valid participation is considered to be valid after it has been paid off financially.
  4. The maximum number of participants for the event is two hundred (280) people, complying with all the necessary measures to protect everyone against the virus Covid-19. 
  5. The entry fee is €80 (participation ticket only) per athlete and €30 (participation ticket only) per National Team. The extra items that can be purchased on registrations are T-shirt at €10, Transportation for 1 day at €8, Transportation all days at €15, Closing Banquet at €25.
  6. The event will take place from the 26th of May 2022 until the 29th of May 2022.
  7. Participants are obliged to fully comply with the regulations set by the organizer. They are also obliged to obey the suggestions of the individuals (eg. volunteers, reviewers) designated by the organizer. Failure to comply with the regulations or instructions will result in the exclusion penalty, with no refund or any other costs. Any person authorized by the event manager may record any infringement that he has perceived and report it to the event manager.
  8. Any marking of the space provided by the event manager is temporary, intended to serve the participants, and is removed after the event.
  9. Athletes are involved at their own risk and the organizing authority is not responsible for any injuries they may have, as stated in the statement of responsibility or here. However, qualified medical personnel and a fully equipped ambulance will be available. There will also be rescue teams covering the event.
  10. Participants must have been examined by a physician who has judged them capable of participating in the particular event. Medical advice must not be older than 30 days from the last day of the event. Any participant who is diagnosed with respiratory disease will have to cancel his/her participation by sending the doctor's diagnosis to asimolonlave@gmail.com and then he/she is entitled to a refund.
  11. The use of a mask is mandatory before the start and immediately after the finish of the race for the athletes.
  12. Covid-19 UPDATE
    The regulations about covid-19 testing will be announced near the dates of the competition and they will be based on the government's announcements. We cannot take responsibility and announce anything in advance because rules about testing are constantly changing.
  13. Athletes will be able to visit the toilets of OAKA, which follow the safety and cleanliness protocols.
  14. It is strictly forbidden to dispose any kind of object during the whole event, such as plastic bottles or any other solid or liquid food packaging material used by athletes during the event. Disposal of packaging materials or other non-organic waste anywhere on the route beyond the predetermined, carries an exclusion penalty, no refund, or any other costs.
  15. The event manager undertakes to supervise the field of play with specialized personnel in safety, rescue, and medical assistance to the participants in need. In cases where security personnel and referees indicate to athletes that the event must be stopped for safety reasons, the latter is obliged to obey. Non-compliance means exclusion, no refund, or any other costs.
  16. In case of need, the event manager reserves the right to postpone the start of the event in order not to endanger the physical integrity of the participants. In very extreme conditions he can cancel the event.
  17. In case the event is postponed indefinitely, a full refund will be made to the participants.
  18. Participant exclusion occurs for: a) Pollution of the site. b) Inappropriate behavior towards the organizing staff. c) Inappropriate behavior towards the spectators of the event. d) Non-compliance with these Regulations.
  19. Εach participant responsibly declares that he has not contracted a respiratory infection at least two weeks before the starting day (May 25, 2022).
  20. The organizers are not responsible for the deaths, injuries, or any damage to the health of the participants who, upon submitting their request for participation, declare that they are aware of the risks involved including those allegedly attributed to the negligent acts or omissions of the foregoing that their health status is good and allows them to participate, and they have recently been examined by a doctor on this subject. However, no participant will be required to submit a medical certificate. They are obliged to perform regular medical checkups in order to check their health status. The event managers disclaim any responsibility for the physical integrity of the participants, who should behave responsibly at any dangerous points on the route. The organizers disclaim any financial responsibility in the event of outside assistance to any athlete.
  21. Participants consent to be featured in photographs or any other media from the event, which shall be used exclusively to promote the event.
  22. The organizers have the authority to modify the rules and regulations of the event, with no further notice.

There are no refunds.
